DreamDoor Books is an independent children's imprint in London. Lizzie and Her White-Tipped Tail is our first title.
Igor Rebenok is the author of Lizzie and Her White-Tipped Tail, DreamDoor Books' debut title. A London author and contemporary artist, he wrote the book out of a love of London - its grandeur, its parks, its light. It is a story about resourcefulness, determination, and finding beauty where others see none.
Alongside his writing, Igor is an exhibiting contemporary artist whose work has been exhibited and donated to charitable causes across London, and a legal and financial services professional with a career in the City of London. He believes that creativity and professional life are not opposites, they make each other sharper.
Henrieta Budde is a Latvian-German artist and illustrator whose work is rooted in the natural world. She runs the independent studio and gallery Budde Art, where she works in oil, acrylic, watercolour, ink and pencil, and creates delicate collages from pressed and dried flowers.
Her paintings are known for their landscapes, floral motifs and whimsical animal portraits - the perfect sensibility for a young fox finding her place in a great city. This is her debut picture book illustration.
Lizzie is a young fox who is utterly in love with London, but life in the city is tough. Her den is dark, cold and nothing to be proud of. As she explores Hyde Park, she meets Archie the shiny-eyed squirrel, Cecil the parakeet, and a wise old Owl - all living in bright, beautiful homes high above her. Determined and resourceful, Lizzie finds a way to transform her world.
Long before publication, the manuscript of Lizzie and Her White-Tipped Tail was read aloud to children and families across five countries, and the response has been wonderful.
A really charming, warm story with a clear emotional heart. Lizzie's determination and quiet hope come through beautifully. The message about pride and creating something of your own is lovely. A thoughtful story with real potential and I can't wait to see the illustrations.
I hope when it hits the shelves it will do well. Children will love it.
